Why Should I Update My Chevy Software?

Chevrolet, like many automakers, releases periodic software updates to:

  • Fix known glitches and bugs
  • Improve Bluetooth and smartphone connection
  • Add support for new features like wireless Apple Carplay or Android Auto
  • Enhance system speed and performance
  • Apply critical security patches
  • Update GPS navigation (if equipped)

In some cases, updates can even improve how your vehicle drives by modifying engine or transmission control modules.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Update Chevy Mylink

Step 1:

First, identify which system your Chevy vehicle has. Most 2014-2019 models use Chevy Mylink, while newer models typically feature Infotainment 3 systems.

  • Go to settings > about > software information
  • Take note of the current version number

Step 2:

Ensure that your vehicle has internet connection, as all software updates require it. You will also need to accept the Terms and Conditions on your infotainment screen in order to receive these updates.

Step 3:

The latest software downloads are initiated automatically! They occur in the background, which means you can continue to use your vehicle normally. Your software download will automatically pause and resume when you turn of your vehicle or lose internet connectivity. The size of the software update and your internet connectivity strength may affect the download times.  You can track the progress of your software download by going to settings > system > Vehicle software.

Step 4:

Once the download is complete, you can begin to install the update. In order to install the update your vehicle must be in park with the ignition turned off. Then, just follow the instructions provided on the screen. During the software instillation, you cannot drive your vehicle, and the center display may remain active. Please note that once an installation is initiated, it cannot be stopped, so ensure that your vehicle is parked in a safe and secure location. The installation is expected to take 20 minutes or less. You are not required to stay in your vehicle during installation.

And just like that, your Chevy Mylink software has been updated!
